New Delhi, April 14: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday reiterated the government’s commitment to implementing women’s reservation in legislative bodies, saying that women across India are welcoming the initiative.
Sharing a letter addressed to the nation’s ‘Nari Shakti’, the Prime Minister said the move reflects the government’s resolve to fulfil the long-pending promise of reserving seats for women in Parliament and state assemblies.
He noted that mothers, sisters and daughters across the country are appreciating the decision to ensure women’s reservation from the 2029 Lok Sabha and state assembly elections.
In the letter dedicated to India’s women, the Prime Minister said he had shared his thoughts with citizens on realising this decades-old commitment at the earliest.
Taking to X, Modi wrote that women throughout India are appreciating the initiative to guarantee reservation for women in legislative institutions, adding that his letter to the country’s Nari Shakti reaffirms the government’s determination to turn the long-pending resolution into reality.
The statement comes amid renewed national focus on women’s political representation and institutional participation, with the proposed implementation from the 2029 general and assembly elections expected to mark a major shift in India’s democratic framework.
