Petrol prices in Jaipur surged past the ₹107 mark on Friday after the Centre increased fuel prices by ₹3 per litre amid escalating global energy tensions linked to the ongoing West Asia conflict.
Following the revision, petrol in Jaipur climbed to ₹107.97 per litre from ₹104.72, while diesel rose to ₹93.23 per litre from ₹90.21.
In Delhi, petrol prices increased to ₹97.77 per litre from ₹94.77, while diesel moved up to ₹90.67 per litre from ₹87.67.
The latest hike comes as Brent crude prices continue to trade above USD 100 per barrel due to supply concerns triggered by tensions involving the US, Israel and Iran, along with disruptions around the Strait of Hormuz — a critical global crude oil shipping route.
The spike in global oil prices has intensified concerns over fuel inflation and transportation costs across India, especially in states already witnessing high retail fuel rates.
Earlier this week, Union Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said India continues to maintain stable fuel supplies despite rising geopolitical tensions and global crude volatility. The government also stated that domestic refineries are operating at optimum capacity and there are no fuel shortages in the country.
Amid rising energy concerns, Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently urged citizens to reduce fuel dependence by adopting public transport, carpooling, work-from-home practices, and electric vehicles wherever possible.
