The concept of empowering women lies in the idea of representation. In the discourse of our society where women have had limited roles and representation in history, it becomes natural for one to assign them a marginal position.
Remembering and celebrating women becomes important as a key step to question the power struggle in a patriarchal hegemonic framework. The goal is to make sure the voices, struggles and achievements of all women are heard and appreciated. The fight is for both equality and equity, thus representation of women on a special day becomes a first step towards a bigger picture where misogyny holds no value and women are appreciated on a daily basis.
Curbing Harassment And Violence : Building A Safe Space
Even though the 3rd wave of feminism stands for reclaiming derogatory words and rising above it, the misogyny seems very deep rooted. We need to realise that both men and women are agents of patriarchy. There is a heavy wave of desensitization towards the upliftment of women.
The oppression and thought process has justified treating women as objects, thus the heinous crimes. The law does not issue proper laws for women safety and rather victim shaming becomes a casual practice. The implementation of laws should be stricter, and in such unsafe environments women should not be afraid to raise their voice be it the workplace/domestic space or a public space. End to end public transport connectivity should be improved and workshops should be conducted.
Opportunities And Encouragement
A true change is only possible when both genders are sensitised towards the big issue. Small steps can make a greater impact, thus it becomes critical to eliminate the gender discrimination at homes first,so it doesn’t translate into other forms outside.
It becomes important to rewire our mental framework influenced by society’s dominant ideas which has always told us to treat girls as liability and deny them the same opportunities as men.
Being generation equality not only means that I understand and exercise my woman’s right, but I also spread education and impart awareness.
Modern Women Expanding Their Horizons
Joining the workforce will not only help women become financially independent but also shape their psychology at the micro as well as macro level as they interact with people who are passionate about the same thing as them or delve in different perspectives, thus helping them broaden their horizons. This exposure at the workplace definitely impacts one’s mental health and helps develop a better EQ, which would indirectly make them better mentors to their kids and family. Thus, yes we should encourage and support women to participate and work, just like we do for men without any bias.
Change Is Coming Slowly
Evolving job needs are empowering women and levelling the playing field. The new service economy doesn’t rely on physical strength but skills that come easily to women.Women brains are shown to have a higher set of EQ which helps streamline the negotiation, team building and working ethic together.
The emergence of female leaders can become a powerful centrifugal force in the world, and work as a key driver of social change. We’re seeing women pioneer leaders from various industries emerging from across the generations to cross-weave their knowledge and drive for change about issues they care about. Most importantly, there are now ambitious and capable women running influential organizations who can activate physical change through technology and policy.
