The National Institute for the Empowerment of Persons with Intellectual Disabilities (NIEPID), Regional Centre, Noida, in collaboration with Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI), New Delhi, successfully organized a three-day Continuing Rehabilitation Education (CRE) Programme on the NIEPID DISHA Curriculum from 2nd to 4th February 2026 at the FTK-CIT Conference Hall, JMI.
The inaugural session began with the reception of dignitaries, coordinated by student volunteers, followed by the Tilawat of the Holy Quran and its translation by Mr. Shakeelur Rahman Khan, and the rendition of the Jamia Tarana. The formal welcome and felicitation of guests were conducted by Mrs. Jayati Mitra and Dr. Wasim Ahmad. Mrs. Jayati Mitra, NIEPID RC, Noida, delivered the Welcome Address.
Representing Jamia Millia Islamia, Dr. Mohd. Faizullah Khan, Nodal and Grievance Redressal Officer for Persons with Disabilities, JMI, addressed the gathering and highlighted the university’s strong commitment towards inclusive education, accessibility, and empowerment of persons with disabilities through academic and administrative initiatives. He emphasized Jamia’s proactive role in promoting equity, social justice, and equal opportunities in higher education.
A major highlight of the inaugural session was the address by the Chief Guest, Prof. Md. Mahtab Alam Rizvi, Registrar, Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi, who underscored the importance of institutional collaboration between Jamia Millia Islamia and national institutes such as NIEPID. He stressed that such partnerships are essential for strengthening rehabilitation services, capacity building, and inclusive pedagogical practices. He reaffirmed Jamia’s commitment to supporting policies and programmes that ensure dignity, inclusion, and empowerment of persons with disabilities.
Mrs. Jayati Mitra also elaborated on the NIEPID DISHA Curriculum, outlining its objectives and scope in strengthening functional and inclusive education for children with intellectual disabilities.
The inaugural session concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Dr. Wasim Ahmad, followed by the National Anthem and High Tea.
