Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav urged affluent sections of society to set a new social trend by participating in mass marriage ceremonies, saying such events help curb unnecessary expenditure and social showmanship associated with weddings.
Addressing a mass marriage programme for 200 brides in Ashta, Sehore district through virtual mode, the Chief Minister said collective marriage ceremonies promote social harmony and reduce the financial burden on families.
He said weddings are sacred institutions in Indian culture, but excessive spending and display during ceremonies often create financial stress for families. He added that resources saved through simple weddings could instead be invested in improving family welfare and children’s future.
The Chief Minister also emphasized that ensuring proper education for daughters is the responsibility of every parent.
Highlighting the impact of the Chief Minister Kanya Vivah/Nikah Yojana, Dr. Yadav said that between December 2023 and April 2026, a total of 1,70,187 daughters were married under the scheme, with financial assistance of nearly ₹1,000 crore provided by the state government.
He said the initiative has enabled economically weaker families to conduct weddings with dignity and without taking loans. According to the Chief Minister, mass marriage programmes have become an effective medium of social service and collective social reform.
Dr. Yadav also noted that he had personally conducted his own son’s marriage through a mass marriage ceremony, encouraging society to adopt simplicity in wedding traditions.
The event in Ashta was attended by local public representatives, newlywed couples and their family members.
