Motherson Inaugurates New Facility at Tanger Med Industrial Platform, Morocco
Tangier, Morocco – 08 October 2022: Mr. V. C. Sehgal, Chairman of Motherson, officially inaugurated the company’s new manufacturing facility at the Tanger Med Industrial Platform. The inauguration ceremony was attended by representatives from the Moroccan Government and Administration, Tanger Med Group, and key stakeholders from the automotive industry.
The new facility, part of Motherson’s Modules and Polymer Products division, will manufacture interior modules and components such as instrument panels and door panels for passenger vehicles and light commercial vehicles. This facility replaces the existing Tétouan site established in 2010 and marks a significant upgrade in capacity and technology.
Spanning 15,000 m²—double the size of the previous site—the facility will employ up to 300 skilled professionals at peak production. It will focus on advanced manufacturing processes including plastic injection molding, high-precision robot-aided milling, plastic welding, and airbag integration solutions. The facility’s strategic location closer to customers will reduce transportation costs, while expanded capacity is expected to create more employment and growth opportunities in Tangier.
Motherson’s expansion in Tangier also includes plans to develop in-house capabilities for high-quality soft-touch surfaces for automotive interiors using modern polymer finishes. The company’s sustained success in the region reinforces its position as a global leader in automotive solutions and a trusted partner to its customers, supporting their evolving production needs and growth.
Commenting on the inauguration, Mr. V. C. Sehgal said, Morocco’s strategic location, with proximity to Europe and the Middle East, makes it a key hub for Motherson. This new facility will enable us to better serve both existing and new customers in these regions. We deeply appreciate the continued support from the Moroccan government and Tanger Med teams in accelerating our investment in Tangier. We remain committed to supporting the automotive sector here to help it reach its full potential."
