Union Minister for Agriculture, Farmers Welfare, and Rural Development, Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, today inaugurated the newly established state-of-the-art vegetable and flower seed processing and packaging unit of the National Seeds Corporation (NSC) at the Pusa Complex, New Delhi.
On the occasion, the Minister also virtually inaugurated five advanced seed processing plants of NSC located at Bareilly, Dharwad, Hassan, Suratgarh, and Raichur.
The Vegetable Seed Processing Plant at the Seed Bhavan in Pusa has a capacity of 1 tonne per hour, while the other five NSC plants have a capacity of 4 tonnes per hour each. Equipped with modern technologies, these plants will ensure the availability of high-quality seeds to farmers and improve the overall quality of seed production across the country.
During the event, Shri Chouhan also launched the ‘Seed Management 2.0’ system and an online seed booking platform, enabling farmers to book their seed requirements digitally—enhancing both transparency and accessibility.
Speaking on the occasion, Shri Chouhan emphasized that “seeds are the foundation of farming, and quality seeds are vital for higher productivity.” He added that these new facilities will play a key role in ensuring timely access to superior seeds, thereby boosting agricultural output.
Highlighting the government’s commitment to farmers, he said that during the Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan, many complaints were received regarding fake and substandard seeds, and these new NSC plants will help address those concerns. “Providing quality seeds to farmers is essential, and NSC’s role in this mission is crucial,” he remarked.
The Minister lauded the NSC team, calling the initiative a significant step towards a self-reliant agricultural system. He noted, “The National Seeds Corporation’s mission is not just to sustain livelihoods, but to fill the nation’s granaries.”
He also urged NSC to expand its services in regional languages to reach more farmers and encourage innovation and inclusivity. Shri Chouhan stressed that while the private sector has its place, public sector corporations like NSC hold a unique and vital importance in ensuring fairness and accessibility. He directed NSC to prepare a roadmap for reaching quality seeds to small and marginal farmers.
The event was attended by Agriculture Secretary Dr. Devesh Chaturvedi, NSC CMD and Additional Secretary Smt. Maninder Kaur Dwivedi, Joint Secretary Shri Ajit Kumar Sahu, and other senior officials from NSC and the Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare.
Established in 1963, National Seeds Corporation Limited (NSC) is a Schedule ‘B’, Miniratna Category-I company under the Government of India. It has been playing a pivotal role in producing and supplying quality seeds to farmers across the country for over six decades.
