To provide a long-term solution to the drinking water crisis in Pali, Jalore, Sirohi, and Barmer districts, the ambitious project to connect the Mahi Dam to the Jawai Dam is now set to take shape. A crucial meeting regarding this project was held on Wednesday between Chief Minister Shri Bhajanlal Sharma and Sumerpur MLA and Animal Husbandry Minister Shri Joraram Kumawat.
The meeting focused on discussions related to the Detailed Project Report (DPR) of this ₹7,000 crore initiative. After the meeting, Shri Kumawat shared that Chief Minister Shri Bhajanlal Sharma had announced this project in the 2024–25 budget to divert surplus monsoon water from the Mahi and Som rivers, filling dams including the Jaisamand Dam, and eventually channeling the water to the Jawai Dam.
To implement this budget announcement, in-depth discussions were held. An administrative and technical approval of ₹15.60 crore has been issued by the Chief Engineer’s Office of the Water Resources Department in Jaipur for preparing the DPR. WAPCOS Limited has been given the work order by the Executive Engineer, Water Resources Division, Salumber. Following this, WAPCOS submitted an inspection report to the Udaipur division, which has since been approved.
Shri Kumawat added that upon the successful completion of this ₹7,000 crore project, permanent relief will be provided to the drinking water issues in Udaipur, Sirohi, Pali, and Jodhpur districts. Additionally, the project will enable irrigation across 16,000 hectares of land.
