New Delhi, April 3, 2026:
Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Friday completed his self-enumeration for Census 2027 at his official residence in New Delhi, joining the first phase of India’s first fully digital national census exercise.
Describing the exercise as the beginning of a new era in governance, Birla said the digital census marks a historic shift in India’s administrative framework. He noted that, for the first time in the country’s history, citizens have been empowered to directly enter details of their households and family members through a secure and user-friendly digital platform.
He said the transition to digital enumeration reflects India’s growing technological capabilities and will help ensure that national data is more accurate, transparent, and reflective of ground realities. The move is also expected to improve the speed and efficiency of data collection ahead of the full-scale population count scheduled for 2027.
Reiterating the vision of “public welfare through census,” Birla appealed to citizens across the country to actively participate in the process by completing their own self-enumeration and encouraging others to do the same. He said wider public participation would contribute to building a stronger and more prosperous India.
