Why do women use a sieve to view the moon?
During Karwa Chauth, women traditionally view the moon through a sieve. One popular story tells of a devoted woman, Veervati, who fasted and became very weak. Her brothers, to protect her, had her look at the moon through a sieve. She believed the moon had appeared, broke her fast, and her husband miraculously survived. Since then, the tradition of viewing the moon through a sieve continues.
