The University Polytechnic, Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) successfully conducted a three-day Orientation/Student Induction Program from August 12, 2024, to August 14, 2024. The event was organized to welcome and acclimate the newly admitted students to the academic and cultural environment of the institution.
The Inaugural Session commenced with a welcome address by Dr. M. A. Khan, Principal of University Polytechnic. He extended a warm welcome to the freshers, encouraging them to take full advantage of the opportunities at JMI. The session featured an address to freshers by Prof. Mohammad Shakeel, Officiating Vice Chancellor, JMI, who inspired students with insights into the university’s rich history and commitment to education. In her address Prof. Mini Shaji Thomas, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering & Technology emphasized the importance of academic excellence and integrity.
On the second day, a series of addresses and lectures were delivered by esteemed faculty and alumni to guide new students in their academic journey. Deputy Dean, Students’s Welfare (DSW) Office, JMI, offered valuable advice on student welfare and support services available on campus. Prof. Rahela Farooqi, Honorary Director of the University Placement Cell, delivered an insightful lecture on the importance of career planning and placement opportunities.
Prof. Shahid Khan, Chief Proctor of JMI emphasized the significance of discipline and respect within the campus community. Prof. Rihan Khan Suri, Director of the Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, encouraged students to explore innovative ideas and entrepreneurial ventures. Prof. Naved Ahsan, Professor In-charge of the Office of the Controller of Examinations, explained the examination and assessment procedures at JMI. Prof. Mohammed Suhaib, Provost of the Hall of Residence (Boys), gave insights into campus life and the residential facilities. Mr. Aqil Ahmed, OSD to the Commissioner of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) and a proud alumnus of University Polytechnic, shared his experiences and motivated students to excel in their chosen fields. Mr. Sayed Mohammad Arif Ashraf, Senior System Analyst at FTK-Centre for Information Technology, JMI, addressed the students on the critical role of technology in modern education.
A special lecture on Cyber Security was delivered by Dr. Shane Kazim Naqvi, Officiating Director of FTK-Centre for Information Technology, JMI, providing students with essential knowledge on safeguarding digital information in the current technological landscape.
The final day of the induction program included a comprehensive campus tour, allowing freshers to explore key facilities of the university like University Polytechnic Building & Labs, Central Library, NCC/NSS Units, University Placement Cell, FTK-Centre for Information Technology, Sports Complex, Dr. M. A. Ansari Health Centre etc. The tour provided students with a hands-on experience of the university’s resources, ensuring a smooth transition into their academic life at JMI.
Dr. M. A. Khan, Principal of University Polytechnic, extended his appreciation to Dr. Sunil and Dr.Shaan Ameer for their outstanding efforts in successfully coordinating the Orientation Program. Their dedication and meticulous planning ensured a smooth and enriching experience for all the new students.
The successful completion of this orientation program marks the beginning of a promising academic journey for the new students at University Polytechnic, JMI.
