New Delhi, May 3: The Department of Economics, Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) celebrated its annual academic and cultural fest known as ‘Ecocracy’ on 29th April, 2024 with much fervor and enthusiasm. 3D Modeling competition on the theme “Imagining A Sustainable Future”, Wall Painting Competition on the theme “Global Economy”, Chess, Video Gaming, Treasure Hunt, Pictionary competitions were some of the attractions of Ecocracy 2024.
An Extempore competition was also held which saw participation from many Departments and centres of JMI. Extempore speech was centred around the topics such as 1.Is artificial intelligence a threat or an opportunity? 2. The changing landscape of education in India (New Education Policy 2020) 3.The potential of startups in driving India’s economic growth.4.Political corruption and its effects on economic development. 5. Climate change and economic policy: strategies for mitigation and adaptation. 6.The role of cryptocurrency in shaping the future of finance.7.Income inequality: causes, consequences, and potential solutions etc. Extempore was judged by Dr. Roomy Naqvi of Department of English JMI. Ecocrary 2024 had enough academic, cultural and entertainment content.
The program started with opening remarks by Prof. Asheref Illiyan, Head, Department of Economics, JMI. He apprised the audience of the recent achievements of the Department such as number of campus placements, 100 percent internship for MSc BFA students, organization of important academic events like Global Conclave on Sustainable Development Goals, Golden Jubilee Alumni Meet and national workshop on NSS data extraction and Analysis etc.
The Chief Guest of the inaugural function was Prof. Muslim Khan, Dean Faculty of Social Sciences, JMI. He congratulated the students and Head of the Department for organizing such multi-faceted fest which are very important for the overall development of the students. He also briefly highlighted the history of JMI and its present NIRF position as 3rd ranked university in India.
Dr. Vasim Akram, student advisor said JMI is a historic institution where students get a conducive environment for learning new things, innovations, efficiency and productivity. Prof. Moonis Shakeel, Dr. Md Zakaria and Dr. Kashif spoke on the occasion and conveyed their best wishes to the programme.
The festival saw an overwhelming participation of guests, faculty members and students. More than 250 students across JMI participated in the event and it turned out to be highly memorable and enjoyable for all.
