The Chief Guest of the inaugural function Prof. V.K. Malhotra, Member Secretary, Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), New Delhi congratulated the organizers for the important refresher programme. He was also impressed by the theme entitled ‘Sustainable Development and Environmental Management’.Prof. Malhotra called upon the scientific community and academia to undertake emerging issues related to sustainable development, environmental management, climate change mitigation, inclusive development and pathways to resilient society post COVID-19 pandemic.
He underscored the impressive record of Government of India under dynamic leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi to meet the green energy and solar alliance.The Guest of Honor of the Inaugural Function, Prof. M. Ishtiaque, Former Vice Chancellor, Magadh University and Retired Professor, Department of Geography, JMI appreciated the theme of the Refresher Course and emphasized environmental management is critical for meeting sustainable development.
Prof. Ishtiaque also highlighted the special economic stimulus package by Government of India to achieve the mission of ‘Atma Nirbhar Bharat/Self Reliant India’.Prof. S.B. Singh, Former Head and Retired Professor, Department of Geography, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi was also the Guest of Honor. Prof. Singh stressed upon the pivotal role of 3E’s- environment, energy and economy for achieving sustainable development.
Prof. Anisur Rahman, Director, UGC-HRDC, JMI welcomed all the distinguished delegates and participants of the Refresher Course. Prof. Rahman underscored the inspiring leadership and support of JMI Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Najma Akhtar, that played an instrumental role towards achieving academic and research excellence over the years.
Dr. Praveen Kumar Pathak, Course Coordinator, outlined the design of the course and highlighted the theme and sub-themes of the Refresher Course.Prof. Haroon Sajjad (Officiating Head), Department of Geography, JMI gave the Chair remarks and emphasized upon the need for addressing environmental management for sustainable development.The inaugural function ended with a vote of thanks by Dr. Lubna Siddiqui, Associate Professor, Department of Geography, JMI.
