It is a matter of great pride for the Jamia Millia Islamia(JMI)(A NAAC A++ Accredited Institution) that it has been recognised as a ‘Swachhta Action Plan Institution’ by the Mahatma Gandhi National Council of Rural Education(MGNCRE), Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, Government of India (GoI).
The certificate awarded to JMI states that the institution has successfully formed the Swachhta Action Plan Committee and constituted the working groups Post Covid19 for Sanitation & Hygiene, Waste Management, Water Management, and Greenery along with the observation of two environment related days to inculcate in faculty, students and community, the practices of Swachhta and Reduction, Reuse and Recycling of Resources.
JMI Vice Chancellor Prof. Najma Akhtar said that this recognition has demonstrated our commitment to protect the environment. It also tells our seriousness towards the vision of the Sustainable Development Goals to become socially conscious and embrace our responsibility to protect our physical and social environment by implementing programmes like Swachhta Mission, effective waste management, water harvesting and promoting green energy.
The MGNCRE, GoI team that visited the University for Inspection wrote in its appreciation letter addressed to Dr Abid Husain, Assistant Professor, Department of Psychology, JMI and the Nodal Officer, Swachh Bharat Mission that they were honoured to visit JMI, an institution that not only strives to provide value based education but also makes it an endeavour to establish a conducive and cohesive environment for decisive action, inspiring innovation and remarkable determination; clubbed with the best facilities a campus can provide with regards to Swachh standards, to the future leaders of India.
