New Delhi, December 20: Mr. Munna Khalid, a PhD student at Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI), has won two bronze medals in Bahrain Para Badminton International 2024 (Level-1). The Championship was organized by Badminton World Federation (BWF) in Manama city of Bahrain from December 11 to 15, 2024. Following this accomplishment, Munna Khalid has attained the distinction of being the tenth ranked shuttler globally.
Notably, only the top twelve ranked players globally are eligible to compete in the Level-1 tournament. Khalid advanced to the semifinals following a series of victories in the group matches ultimately settling for a bronze in both singles and mixed doubles events.
In September, Khalid achieved tremendous success by winning two bronze medals at the Indonesia Para Badminton International 2024. Earlier, in July, he had an impressive performance at the Uganda Para Badminton Championship 2024, securing gold, silver and bronze. Additionally, in December, 2023, he added another bronze medal at the Khelo India Para Games. To date, Khalid has won a total of nine international medals representing India, comprising two gold, two silver and five bronze medals.
JMI Vice Chancellor, Prof. Mazhar Asif along with the Hony. Director of Games and Sports JMI, Prof. Nafis Ahmed, extended their congratulations to Khalid for his remarkable achievement and expressed their best wishes for his future pursuits. Prof Asif added that Khalid has not only proved his mettle as a top badminton player but also positioned JMI on the international sporting map.
Expressing his joy over this achievement, Khalid stated that his aspiration is to secure a medal for the nation in the forthcoming Asian Games and Paralympics.
