The Department of Architecture, Faculty of Architecture and Ekistics, Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) commemorated National Education Day by organizing a two-day workshop entitled “MEPF Services Design of Hospital Buildings.” The event took place from November 11th to 12th, 2024, in collaboration with the Indian Plumbing Association (IPA) Delhi Chapter and the IPA Student Chapter of the Department of Architecture, JMI.
The workshop saw the enthusiastic participation of 113 registrants, highlighting the critical aspects of MEPF (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, and Fire services) for hospital infrastructure. These aspects are essential to creating safe, efficient, and sustainable healthcare environments, reflecting how specialized knowledge serves public health and community well-being. The aim of this workshop was to provide state of art trends in industry related to MEPF services in hospitals to Architecture students.
The event commenced with an invocation for blessings and a warm welcome for the IPA delegation, including Mr. Saurabh Ahuja (Hony. Secretary IPA Delhi Chapter), Mr. Abhay Singh (IPA NEC Member), and Mr. B.P. Gupta (IPA NEC Member). This delegation was joined by Mr. R. K. Kohli, Mr. Deepak Sharma, and Mr. Mohd Mujeeb.
Dr. Kulsum Fatima, Organizing Secretary of the workshop, highlighted the significance of National Education Day and the impact of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad on Indian Education history. First-year B.Arch students gave a presentation on Azad’s life and contributions to the nation and its education.
Prof. Qamar Irshad, Patron of the Workshop and Dean of the Faculty of Architecture and Ekistics, delivered the opening address, emphasizing Maulana Azad’s legacy and the importance of blending academic knowledge with practical industry skills to address society’s evolving needs and officially declared it open.
Prof. Tayyaba Munawer, the workshop’s Convener and Head of the Department of Architecture, discussed the importance of aligning the workshop with current demographic demands, drawing on both historical values and modern challenges to build a better future.
Mr. Saurabh Ahuja, Honorary Secretary of the IPA Delhi Chapter, introduced students to the IPA’s global role in the industry, setting the stage for the workshop’s objectives.
The Co-convener & Organizing Secretary, Mr. Mohd Zaheer Abidi provided an overview of the workshop structure, its objectives and expected outcomes, and Mr. Mushahid Anwer (Organizing Secretary) concluded the inaugural session with a vote of thanks.
On day one HVAC and Electrical insights of Hospital Building were provided by Mr. R. K. Kohli, Mr. Deepak Sharma, and Mr.Mohd Mujeeb . On day two Plumbing and Fire Fighting services of Hospital building was covered by Mr. Abhay Kumar, Mr. Saurabh Ahuja, Mr. Shwetambuj Pandey. The workshop ended with a vote of thanks by Mohd Zaheer Abidi and Dr.Kulsum Fatima to the resource persons who joined the workshop as industry experts.
