Subject Association of Department of Chemistry, Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) organized an Extension Lecture and a Quiz Competition on the occasion to celebrate Vigilance Awareness Week (VAW) during 30th October – 5th November 2023 thereby to be aware and prevent cases of cheating/corruption.
On the directives of Vice Chancellor, JMI, Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Sciences organized an Extension lecture on “Say No To Corruption; Commit To The Nation "भ्रष्टाचार का विरोध करें; राष्ट्र के प्रति समर्पित रहें” during the Vigilance Awareness Week (VAW 2023), on November 1st 2023, 12.30 pm.
The program was chaired and conducted by Prof. Nahid Nishat, Head Department of Chemistry and by Dr. Rahisuddin, Advisor, Subject Association, Department of Chemistry. Dr. Rahisuddin extended warm welcome to the distinguished speaker of the day, Prof. M. Asad Malik, Professor, Faculty of Law, JMI, all faculty members, students, and guest.
Prof. Mohammad Asad Malik delivered a wonderful lecture. He talked about the laws which we can reduce corruption in government and private organizations. Right to Information Act, 2005 was introduced to promote transparency and accountability in the working of every public sector. Prof. Malik further highlighted that the vigilance and public awareness are the key points through which corruption can be minimized. He emphasized that this initiative of the government to observe vigilance awareness week is good to make the citizens aware about anti-corruption laws. To combat the pervasive issue of corruption, it is a best practice to foster integrity in each arena through Education. Overall audience enjoyed listening to the enthusiastic talk adorned with deeply connected couplets to the content by Prof. Malik Prof. Nahid Nishat, Head, Department of Chemistry presented a brief account of the Department. She apprised the faculty members, infrastructure and effective teaching-learning process in the Department. She highlighted the thrust area of the Department and its contribution towards imparting knowledge. She advised to the students to be regular and attentive in the class. She motivated to the students to be a good human being and responsible citizen of India.
The lecture was followed by an interactive session with the speaker. It was concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Zeba, Assistant Professor, Department of Chemistry.
Another event in the series under the aegis of celebration of VAW-2023 was conducted by Subject Association. Around 70 students from UG and PG courses of the Department showed an overwhelming response towards the participation in this Competition. A Computer Based Test (CBT) Quiz was conducted by Dr. Saleem Javed, Associate Professor and Dr. Zeba, Assistant Professor, Department of Chemistry, JMI. The Quiz Competition of one hour duration with a total of fifty questions each of two marks (comprising of topics from general chemistry, constitutional rights and anti-corruption laws etc.) was performed on 7th Nov. 2023, 3:00 – 4:00 pm.
