The government today declared the 'Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI)' as an 'Unlawful Association' under Section 3(1) of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, for a period of five years. The notification was issued vide S.O. 564(E) by the government, and the previous ban on SIMI was imposed on January 31, 2019.
SIMI has been involved in promoting terrorism, disrupting peace, and disturbing communal harmony in the country, posing a significant threat to the sovereignty, security, and integrity of India. Several criminal cases, including various offenses under different sections of the law, have been registered against SIMI and its members.
The extension of the ban under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, underscores the government's commitment to combatting terrorism and safeguarding the nation's interests.
