Mandi, 13th June 2026:: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Mandi, one of India’s leading IITs, successfully concluded the International Conference on Fundamental and Advanced Research in Chemistry (FARC-2026), a prestigious three-day international conference dedicated to advancing contemporary research across diverse domains of chemistry. The conference served as a global platform for researchers, academicians, scientists, and industry experts to exchange ideas, present innovations, and foster collaborations in emerging areas of chemical sciences.
Over the years, research in chemistry has witnessed tremendous growth, contributing significantly to scientific advancements and sustainable solutions for societal development. In line with this vision, FARC-2026 highlighted recent developments in both fundamental and applied chemistry across areas including chemical sciences, material sciences, spectroscopy, microscopy, and imaging. Participants from several countries joined the conference to facilitate knowledge exchange in advanced fields of chemistry and collectively contribute towards improving human life through scientific innovation.
The conference was organized under the leadership of the local organizing committee comprising Prof. Laxmidhar Behera, Prof. Subrata Ghosh, Prof. Chayan K. Nandi, Dr. Garima Agrawal, Dr. Moupriya Das, Dr. Narayan Sinha, and Dr. Abhimanew Dhir of IIT Mandi.
Speaking during the conference, Prof. Chayan K. Nandi, Chair, FARC - 2026, said, “that our dream comes true for organizing such a mega event with a total participation of approximately 300, where 40 eminent speakers including 9 highly reputed international speakers participated. Their presence made the event a grand success. Prof. Nandi said that it was a great challenge to organize such a big conference in a remote location, however, we successfully did it with great passion. All our faculty colleagues at the School of Chemical Sciences supported us wholeheartedly in every aspect of the conference. He thanked the Director of IIT Mandi, Prof. Laxmidhar Behera and Chair of the School of Chemical Sciences, Prof. Subrata Ghosh for their kind support. He mentioned that this biennial conference will happen next time in 2028.”
The conference featured extensive deliberations on key themes including Advanced Functional Materials, Synthetic Organic Chemistry, Inorganic and Organometallic Chemistry, Single Molecule Spectroscopy of Nanomaterials, Super Resolution Microscopy of Biomaterials, Polymer Chemistry, Green Chemistry, and Theoretical and Computational Chemistry. Distinguished researchers from India and across the globe enriched the conference through lectures, technical sessions, and scientific interactions, creating a vibrant environment for interdisciplinary engagement.
FARC-2026 hosted several globally recognized speakers and showcased over 140 high-quality poster presentations. Eminent participants included Prof. Sanjit Konar (IISER Bhopal), Dr. Tomohiro Ogawa (Kyushu University, Japan), Prof. Swapan Pati (JNCASR, Bengaluru), Dr. Ralf Eichhorn (The Nordic Institute for Theoretical Physics, Sweden), Prof. Stanley Botchway (STFC UKRI, UK), Prof. Anindya Datta (Director, INST Mohali), Prof. Hitesh Handa (University of Georgia, USA), Prof. Subi George (JNCASR, Bengaluru), Prof. Bijay P. Tripathi (IIT Delhi), and Prof. Debapratim Das (IIT Guwahati), among others.
The conference concluded with productive brainstorming sessions and meaningful discussions among young and experienced researchers, academicians, technologists, and policy planners. Beyond scientific deliberations, the event also facilitated new academic connections and strengthened ongoing collaborations. These interactions are expected to create long-term research partnerships and open new avenues for scientific discovery and innovation in the years ahead.
