A high-level delegation from the Republic of Uzbekistan visited Jamia Millia Islamia's coveted AJK Mass Communication Research Centre (MCRC) yesterday to explore avenues of academic collaboration and cultural exchange between the leading institutions of India and Uzbekistan.
The Uzbek delegation was led by Mr. Sadriddin L. Suyarov, First Secretary at the Embassy of the Republic of Uzbekistan in India. He was accompanied by Mr. Ravshan Rayimjonov, Vice Rector for Academic Affairs, and Ms. Khasanova Gulsanam Khusanovna, Vice Rector for International Relations and Investments at the Journalism and Mass Communication University of Uzbekistan.
The delegation was warmly welcomed by the MCRC Director, Prof Sabeena Gadihoke and other faculty members. Also present on the occasion was Prof. Ushvinder Kaur Popli, Dean, Office of International Relations, Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI). In her remarks, Prof. Popli emphasized the importance of global academic linkages and expressed keen interest in fostering long-term cooperation between Jamia Millia Islamia and institutions in Uzbekistan. She highlighted the potential for joint research, exchange programs, and shared mass communication research and teaching initiatives that would benefit students and faculty on both sides.
During the visit, extensive discussions were held on areas of mutual interest including media education, curriculum development, co-hosted academic events, and professional training in journalism and digital communication.
The Uzbek delegation toured MCRC’s state-of-the-art production studios, editing suites, and media research labs, expressing appreciation for the infrastructure and academic environment of the Centre.
The visit concluded on a positive note with both parties expressing their commitment to developing a comprehensive Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to formalize academic collaboration in the near future.
