The Ministry of Coal has initiated the process for the auction of 27 coal mines and the allotment of 15 coal mines to Central and State Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs).
Of the 27 mines being auctioned, 21 are earmarked for the non-regulated end-use sector, while six coking coal mines are designated for the iron and steel sector. Among the 15 mines being allotted, five are for the power sector, nine for commercial coal sale, and one for the iron and steel industry.
At peak rated capacity (PRC), the 42 coal mines are expected to produce approximately 70 million tonnes per annum (MTPA).
The Ministry has published the Notice Inviting Tender (NIT) and Notice Inviting Application (NIA), with the auction process being conducted electronically through the Metal Scrap Trade Corporation (MSTC) platform.
The last date for bidder registration and purchase of tender documents is September 13, 2019, while bid submissions are due by September 19, 2019. Electronic bidding is scheduled to take place between October 10 and November 8, 2019.
