Union Minister for Science and Technology Jitendra Singh said that India stands at a critical juncture as its scientific ecosystem continues to make significant global contributions across sectors such as space exploration, vaccine development, quantum technologies, and deep-sea missions.
He made these remarks while addressing the valedictory session of the Indian National Science Academy and Capacity Building Commission’s Administrative Training Programme held in New Delhi. During the event, the minister presented certificates and testimonials to the first batch of scientists and academicians who completed formal training in administration and governance.
Emphasising the evolving role of scientific leadership, Singh noted that technical excellence alone is no longer sufficient to lead modern institutions. He stressed the importance of equipping scientists with governance, administrative, and financial management capabilities as they transition into leadership roles.
He further called for the programme to be institutionalised as a recurring national-level initiative rather than remaining a one-time pilot. Singh also encouraged participants to apply their learnings within their respective organisations and act as change agents to strengthen institutional systems and governance practices.
