The first book in English focusing on educational case studies in purchasing and supply chain management, entitled ‘Pedagogical Case Studies in Purchasing and Supply Management’ has been co-edited by Morgane Fritz an HDR-qualified Professor at Excelia Business School, alongside Laurence Viale, Stephen Kelly and Vikas Kumar. Published by Springer Publishing, this work brings together 21 case studies which reflect two key strengths of Excelia Business School: highly developed research in supply chain management and a deeply rooted tradition of pedagogy through case studies.
Practical insights into the evolution of supply chain management
Through real-life scenarios, this publication examines the transformations currently reshaping supply chains. It covers topics such as sustainability, resilience, responsible purchasing, the circular economy, logistics, supplier risk management, digitalisation, and even data-driven decision-making. It is intended for use by teachers, trainers, the academic community, and practitioners. It was co-edited with Laurence Viale from the IÉSEG School of Management, Stephen Kelly from Salford Business School, and Vikas Kumar of the University of Portsmouth.
21 case studies examining real-life trade-offs in purchasing and supply chain management
The book explores the world of purchasing and supply chain management through 21 profession-oriented case studies. They link theory and practice around highly topical organisational challenges such as sustainable purchasing, supply chain constraints, circularity, urban logistics, supplier relations, and the digital transformation. The case studies are intended to introduce students to real-world trade-offs, constraints, stakeholder dynamics, and decision-making when faced with uncertainty. These inspiring cases are equally relevant to both the academic world and the business world.
Purchasing and supply chain management: a key area of expertise at Excelia Busines School
Comprising 15 Professors, most of whom are international, the Supply Chain, Purchasing & Project Management Academic Department covers a particularly broad range of disciplines: purchasing, strategic and sustainable supply chain management, logistics, the circular economy, resilience, the digitalisation of purchasing and the supply chain, and project management. Each year, the department’s research-active Faculty publish some 60 articles in leading academic journals. This dynamic extends to teaching, through 235 modules, equating to 6,500 hours of lessons. This field of expertise is also available as a major or specialisation across all Excelia Business School programmes (Bachelor of Business, BBA International, Master in Management). Furthermore, two MSc programmes are specifically related to this field, attracting a total of 170 students: an MSc in Integrated Purchasing & Supply Chain Management (offered on the La Rochelle, Tours and Orleans campuses) and an MSc in Sustainable Global Supply Chain Management (offered on the Paris campus).
A long-standing culture of case-based learning
The publication of this book is part of a firmly established culture of case-based learning at Excelia Business School. Indeed, the school has had its own case laboratory for several years. Known as Case Lab, it encourages, coordinates and supports the development of case studies produced within the school, which are then fully integrated into teaching activities. Morgane Fritz’s involvement as co-editor of the first English-language book dedicated to supply chain case studies brings international recognition to this expertise, which is strongly rooted in the school’s pedagogical approach.
