Pakistan’s attempts at cornering India on Kashmir issue at the United Nations failed miserably yesterday when most of the permanent members of United Nations Security Council backed India at an informal closed door meeting. India has categorically told the international community that its move to scrap Article 370 of the Constitution revoking the special status to Jammu and Kashmir was an internal matter and has advised Pakistan to accept the reality.
Briefing the media following the conclusion of the informal meeting requested by China and Pakistan, India’s permanent representative to the United Nations, Syed Akbaruddin said India’s position was and remains that matters related to Article 370 of the Constitution are entirely an internal matter of India and these have no external ramifications. Mr. Akbaruddin also said that India is committed to ensure that situation remains calm and peaceful.
Slamming Pakistan without naming it, Mr. Akbaruddin said there are some who are trying to project an “alarmist approach” to the situation in Kashmir, which is far from the ground realities. Akbaruddin said, one state is using the terminology of ‘jihad’ against and promoting violence in India including by their leaders.
Syed Akbaruddin hit out at Pakistan for interfering in the internal matters of India. He asserted that there are normal diplomatic ways when countries deal with each other but using terror to thrive and push your goals is not the way that normal states behave. He asked Pakistan to stop terror to start talks. He said that violence is no solution to the problems that all of us face.
He also said that the recent decisions taken by the Govt of India and our legislative bodies are intended to ensure that good governance is promoted, social-economic development is enhanced for our people in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
