Dr. Zakir Husain Memorial Welfare Society, Jamia Millia Islamia
The students from the Child Guidance Centre and the Centre for Women’s Condensed Course, both operated by the Dr. Zakir Husain Memorial Welfare Society at Jamia Millia Islamia, showcased their talents and offered services to visitors at their stall (Stall No. 53) during the 105th Foundation Day Celebrations of Jamia Millia Islamia. These two units highlighted the Society’s strong commitment to inclusive education, the empowerment of marginalized communities, and the overall social welfare of these communities.
Activities by the Child Guidance Centre (CGC)
The Child Guidance Centre organized a special awareness stall to highlight the services and initiatives undertaken for Children with Special Needs (CWSN). The stall aimed to spread awareness about inclusion, therapeutic interventions, and disability rights among visitors.
Key highlights included:
1. Demonstrations on individualized teaching methods and therapy-based learning approaches for CWSN.
2. Awareness sessions to dispel myths and misconceptions related to disabilities.
3. Exhibition of creative and academic work prepared by students with special needs.
4. Information dissemination on the 21 disabilities covered under the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (RPWD) Act, 2016.
5. Guidance regarding government facilities, welfare schemes, and entitlements for persons with disabilities.
6. Support for applying for the Unique Disability ID (UDID) card.
7. Display of Neurodiversity Lab equipment and their uses in therapy.
8. Distribution of school brochures and informational materials.
9. Explanation of the admission process for children with special needs.
10. Interaction between therapists, special educators, and parents to address queries and share intervention plans.
11. Demonstrations on the importance of counseling, occupational therapy, and speech therapy in holistic child development.
12. Promotion of empathy, inclusion, and awareness within the Jamia community.
Activities by the Centre for Women’s Condensed Course (CWCC)
As part of Jamia’s 105th Foundation Day celebrations, CWCC students participated in the Gandhi and Nehru Trophy competitions held on 30th October 2025, organized by Jamia Senior Secondary School. The Centre achieved third position in the Nehru Trophy and received participation certificates in several categories, showcasing their creativity and enthusiasm.
During the Taleema Mela, the students and teachers of CWCC showcased their skills and talents through various creative crafts, including paintings, handmade products, and other useful items. Flyers and posters were created to highlight the activities conducted at CWCC.
Additionally, a cultural program was organized by both centers as part of the 105th Foundation Day celebrations at the Safdar Hashmi Amphitheater. The event was well received, with a large audience in attendance. During the program, the audience was made aware of the challenges faced by children with special needs and was encouraged to identify and refer such children from their local communities to the CGC, so they can benefit from its services and interventions.
Our stall was visited by dignitaries including Prof. Mazhar Asif sir (Vice-Chancellor, Jamia Millia Islamia), Prof. Mehtab Alam Rizvi sir (Registrar), Prof. Neelofer Afzal ma’am (Dean, Students’ Welfare), Prof. Mohammad Asad Malik Sir (Chief Proctor), Dr. Irshad Husain Naqvi Sir (In-Charge and Chief Medical Officer, Ansari Health Centre), and many other distinguished members of the Jamia community. They commended the dedication and outstanding contributions of the children, teachers, and staff of the Dr. Zakir Husain Memorial Welfare Society.
