In a significant development, NCP chief Ajit Pawar met with party colleague Praful Patel at his residence in Delhi. Pawar is expected to arrive in Mumbai tomorrow. According to sources, BJP leaders, along with Shinde and Pawar, will visit Azad Maidan to assess the preparations for the swearing-in ceremony and demonstrate their unity.
BJP Leader Sudhir Mungantiwar Declares Fadnavis as Next Maharashtra CM
Earlier, BJP leader Sudhir Mungantiwar announced that Devendra Fadnavis would be the next Chief Minister of Maharashtra. "This is my opinion, and the decision will be made during the legislative party meeting. BJP will not spring any surprises," he stated.
Meanwhile, former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, one of the central observers for the BJP's legislature party meeting in Maharashtra, expressed confidence that efforts would be made to elect a leader unanimously. He added that he expects the neighboring state to have a "BJP CM."
The BJP, leading the ruling Mahayuti alliance in Maharashtra, has appointed Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Rupani as central observers for the legislature party meeting in Mumbai, where BJP MLAs will elect their leader.
Key BJP Legislature Party Meeting in the Next Two Days
"The Maharashtra BJP legislature party meeting will take place either on Tuesday or Wednesday. We will aim to unanimously elect a leader during this meeting. Sitharamanji and I will attend as observers and report back to the high command for the declaration of the leader, who could eventually become the CM if that formula is finalized," Rupani stated at his residence in Rajkot.
The important meeting of newly-elected BJP MLAs is scheduled for Wednesday morning at Vidhan Bhawan in South Mumbai, according to a party official.
