According to the latest observations and satellite imagery, a depression has formed over the northwest Bay of Bengal, off the north Odisha–West Bengal coast. At 0830 hrs IST on August 6, 2019, the system was centred near latitude 20.5°N and longitude 88.0°E, approximately 160 km southeast of Balasore in Odisha and 130 km south-southeast of Digha in West Bengal.
The weather system is expected to intensify into a deep depression within the next 24 hours. It is also likely to move west-northwestwards and cross the Odisha–West Bengal coast over the next 48 hours.
