The 20th IAAPI Amusement Expo 2020, India's largest B2B exhibition for the amusement, leisure and recreation industry, was inaugurated by Ms Amanda Thompson, Chairperson of the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions (IAAPA), alongside Mr Sohansinh Jadeja, President of the Indian Association of Amusement Parks and Industries (IAAPI), and other key office bearers.
The exhibition was supported by the Ministry of Tourism under the Incredible India initiative.
Ms Amanda Thompson OBE lauded India's progress in the amusement industry and encouraged stakeholders to further strengthen the sector.
Mr Sohansinh Jadeja said, “In today's era, amusement parks are not just about rides and fun games but have evolved into tourist destinations offering rides, exhibits, food and beverage options, retail outlets and quality accommodation. In the coming decade, we expect the industry to more than double.”
India's Amusement Industry: Growth and Opportunities
India has more than 160 amusement parks, attracting over 30 million visitors annually. Children and young people account for approximately 50% of visitors, travelling either in school groups or with families. Adults constitute the remaining 50%, visiting with their families or as part of corporate groups.
The industry is increasingly expanding beyond city limits, with amusement parks, resorts and hotels emerging as integrated tourism destinations.
Indoor Amusement Centres Driving Mall Footfall
Shopping malls are increasingly leveraging indoor amusement centres (IACs) to attract visitors and boost retail sales.
These centres offer new entertainment experiences while serving as major attractions within shopping malls. The growing trend includes expansive family entertainment centres, destination-based experiences and dedicated entertainment spaces operated by specialised companies.
