The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast cold wave conditions in parts of Delhi, Haryana, and Chandigarh over the next three days, signalling continued harsh winter conditions across north India. The warning comes amid a sharp dip in temperatures that has already intensified the winter chill in the national capital.
Delhi recorded a minimum temperature of 6.4 degrees Celsius at 5:30 am, significantly below the seasonal average, as cold winds and overcast skies prevailed. The IMD has cautioned that similar conditions are likely to persist, affecting daily life and early-morning travel.
In addition to the cold wave, the Met Department has predicted heavy rainfall in Himachal Pradesh, Ladakh, and Jammu and Kashmir tomorrow, which could further intensify cold conditions in the region. Dense fog is also expected to continue over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Himachal Pradesh until tomorrow, potentially impacting road, rail, and air connectivity.
The IMD has advised residents to take necessary precautions against extreme cold and reduced visibility, particularly during early morning and late-night hours, as winter conditions tighten their grip over the northern states.
