Gujarat marked the 77th Republic Day at the state level in Malupur, located in the newly formed Vav-Tharad district, underscoring administrative expansion alongside national celebrations. Governor Acharya Devvrat hoisted the national flag, while Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel attended the समारोह and jointly inspected the parade in an open jeep, greeting citizens.
The celebrations featured a disciplined parade by security forces, cultural performances, and vibrant displays of regional folk traditions, reflecting Gujarat’s cultural and civic pride. In a key outcome of the event, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel announced a major policy decision: free allocation of government land to municipalities for 11 categories of essential public infrastructure.
Under the new policy, urban local bodies will be exempt from paying the usual 25% to 50% of the Jantri (market) rate for land acquisition, significantly easing the financial burden for development projects and accelerating civic infrastructure growth across the state.
Maharashtra Highlights Record Investments, Illuminates Cities in Tricolour
The 77th Republic Day was celebrated with widespread patriotic fervour across Maharashtra, with official ceremonies and symbolic illuminations across major institutions. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis unfurled the national flag at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Maidan in Dadar and addressed the gathering.
In his address, Mr Fadnavis highlighted Maharashtra’s strong global economic positioning, citing investment commitments worth nearly ₹30 lakh crore secured at the World Economic Forum in Davos. The focus on investment outcomes reinforced the state’s growth narrative alongside the national celebration.
Republic Day ceremonies were also held at key civic and transport institutions. Municipal Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani hoisted the flag at the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation headquarters, while Western and Central Railway General Manager Vivek Kumar Gupta unfurled the tricolour at railway headquarters. Prominent buildings, including Mantralaya and BMC headquarters, were illuminated in tricolour lights, adding to the celebratory atmosphere.
Sikkim Reaffirms Constitutional Values and National Security Commitment
Sikkim celebrated the 77th Republic Day at Palzor Stadium in Gangtok, with Governor Om Prakash Mathur as the Chief Guest. Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang, senior civil servants, and officers from the SSB, ITBP, Army, and other central and state agencies were present at the ceremony.
Addressing the gathering, Governor Mathur emphasised the enduring vision of the Constitution’s framers and called upon citizens to reaffirm their commitment to the Republic’s core values. He noted that India’s sovereignty, enshrined in the Constitution, was secured through immense sacrifices by freedom fighters and must be preserved through collective responsibility.
The Governor also paid tribute to India’s border forces, highlighting their vigilance and sacrifices in maintaining peace and stability, which form the foundation for democratic governance and constitutional freedoms to flourish.
