C. Joseph Vijay, founder of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), will be sworn in today as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.
The swearing-in ceremony will take place at Nehru Indoor Stadium at 10 AM, where Vishwanath Arlekar will administer the oath of office and secrecy to Vijay.
According to party sources, nine ministers are also expected to take oath along with the TVK chief.
Large crowds are expected at the venue, with elaborate security and event arrangements made across Chennai for the high-profile ceremony.
The 51-year-old actor-turned-politician led TVK to emerge as the single largest party in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections with 108 seats and over 34% vote share. Vijay later secured majority support with backing from the Indian National Congress, Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), Left parties and Indian Union Muslim League (IUML).
Vijay, popularly known for blockbuster Tamil films and political-themed dialogues in cinema, enters office on his first electoral attempt, marking a major political shift in the state.
The slogan “Unga Vijay Naan Varen” became one of the defining campaign themes during the election campaign, particularly resonating with younger voters.
Vijay is the son of filmmaker S. A. Chandrasekhar and made his acting debut with the film Naalaiya Theerpu before becoming one of Tamil cinema’s biggest stars.
