New Delhi, March 17, 2026: In a significant move toward building an inclusive and cooperative digital economy, ‘Bharat Taxi’ has emerged as a government-backed ride-hailing platform designed to empower drivers and enhance transparency in urban mobility.
Aligned with the vision of Sahakar Se Samriddhi, the platform represents a shift from traditional aggregator models to a driver-centric cooperative framework. Unlike conventional ride-hailing services, Bharat Taxi operates on a zero-commission model, ensuring that drivers—referred to as “Sarathis”—receive direct earnings and share in the platform’s profits.
Registered under the Multi-State Cooperative Societies Act, 2002, the initiative was established on June 6, 2025, by eight national-level cooperative institutions and officially launched on February 5, 2026.
At the core of Bharat Taxi is its “Sarathi-Owner” model, which allows drivers to go beyond service provision and become stakeholders in the platform. Sarathis can:
Own shares in the cooperative
Participate in governance through board representation
Benefit from profit-sharing mechanisms
This structure aims to create a more equitable ecosystem where drivers have both financial and decision-making participation.
The platform integrates technology-driven features such as:
Transparent and regulated fare structure
Real-time vehicle tracking
User-friendly mobile booking interface
Multilingual support
24/7 customer assistance
Currently, Bharat Taxi is operational across Delhi NCR (Delhi, Gurugram, Noida, Faridabad, Ghaziabad) and key cities in Gujarat including Ahmedabad, Rajkot, Somnath, and Dwarka. The platform plans to expand its services across Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities, targeting even tehsil-level penetration over the next three years.
Fare determination is managed by the cooperative, factoring in operational costs, travel distance, and prevailing market conditions, ensuring a balanced outcome for both drivers and passengers. The pricing system is designed to remain transparent, with periodic reviews and communication to all stakeholders.
Driver onboarding follows strict eligibility and compliance norms. Applicants must:
Be above 18 years of age
Hold a valid driving license
Comply with provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act and transport regulations
All applications are processed digitally, followed by mandatory onboarding and training programs focused on platform usage, safety protocols, and customer service standards.
