Two commercial artificial intelligence weather platforms delivered hyper-local severe-storm warnings up to two hours ahead of government forecasts throughout 2025, preventing an estimated $11 billion in property damage, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration confirmed Monday.
ClimaCell Hyperlocal and Tomorrow.io issued rooftop-level predictions using satellite arrays, cellular signal interference, and ground-sensor networks. During the May 2025 Texas flash-flood event, both platforms warned subscribers an average of 118 minutes before the first National Weather Service alert.
The systems correctly forecasted 96% of microburst and hail events that traditional radar missed entirely, NOAA’s verification report showed. Users moved vehicles, secured outdoor equipment, and evacuated low-lying areas in time to avoid major losses.
Insurance companies now offer up to 15% premium discounts for policyholders who grant real-time access to their ClimaCell or Tomorrow.io alerts, industry filings show.
