
Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) organised an Online International Mushaira on the eve of Republic Day on 24th January, 2022. Poets of repute from USA, England, Bahrain, Qatar, Dubai and different parts of the country presented their poems on a variety of themes like love, peace and harmony.Dr. S. Farooq was the Chief Guest and the event was presided over by JMI Vice Chancellor Prof. Najma Akhtar.In her address Prof. Akhtar said that despite the ongoing pandemic the country is celebrating Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav with great enthusiasm through various means.
There is a close relationship between our freedom struggle and the urdu language. Mushaira, an integral part of the Urdu language, has always played an important role in consolidating democracy, promoting Ganga-Jamuni culture in the country, and strengthening bonds of love among the citizens of India.
The Vice Chancellor also wished everyone on National Girl Child Day and said that empowering girls is necessary for an empowered country. She emphasized that the gender ratio in the university is improving.The list of prominent poets who presented their poems includes Dr. Abdullah, USA, Mr Khursheed Alig, Bahrain, Mr. Naeem Seyd, California, USA, Dr. Hilal Fareed, England, Mr. Aziz Nabeel, Qatar, Mr. S. Sarosh Asif, Dubai. Poets from different cities of India were Mr. Hasan Kamal, Mr. Azhar Inayati, Mr. Siraj Ajmali, Mr. Rajesh Reddy, Ms Nusrat Mehdi, Ms Salma Shaheen and Mr. Moien Shadab who was the compere of the mushaira also.
The list of poets from JMI who presented their poems includes Prof. Shehpar Rasool, Dr. Ahmad Mahfooz, Dr Kausar Mazhari, Dr Ahmad Naseeb Khan, Dr Rehman Musawwir and Dr Khalid Mubashshir.
