The International Students Chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) at the Department of Civil Engineering, Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI), organized a briefing session during the induction program on August 19, 2024, to enlighten newly admitted first-year students about the society and its role in engineering.
Dr. Ibadur Rahman, Assistant Professor and Faculty Advisor of ASCE, delivered a warm welcome address. He emphasized the role of civil engineering in shaping the modern world, highlighting its importance in infrastructure development, sustainability,
and societal progress. He further explained the society's mission, encouraging students to actively engage in an environment that fosters the development of civil engineers through continuous efforts and interaction between students and faculty. He also spoke
about the society's commitment to nurturing creativity and innovation by organizing technical, cultural, and literary events, as well as educational tours. The aim of the society is to empower every student to excel as a leader in the civil engineering
profession.
The event also featured engaging activities like "Solve the Riddle", where two students successfully answered all the riddles in the final round and received a reward from the society. Following this, students took to the stage to share their engineering journey, aspirations, hobbies, and more, creating a friendly environment that encouraged open dialogue and confidence among peers.
Dr. Ibadur Rahman concluded the event by thanking all members of the organizing committee and the volunteers for their support. The induction program provided a valuable platform for learning and guidance, making it a memorable and enriching experience for all involved.
