Kurnool, May 19, 2022: In a major stride toward energy security and clean energy leadership, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Shri Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy today performed the first concrete pour for the world’s largest Integrated Renewable Energy Storage Project (IRESP), developed by Greenko Group in Kurnool district.
The 5,230 MW IRESP is a first-of-its-kind, single-location renewable energy project that integrates pumped storage (10,800 MWh daily), solar (3,000 MW), and wind (550 MW) capacities. With a planned investment exceeding US$3 billion, this project marks a significant milestone in India’s energy transition.
Speaking at the event, Chief Minister Reddy hailed the initiative as a historic benchmark for the country:
“What Andhra Pradesh is showcasing today will be a triggering point for the entire country. The use of fossil fuels will take a back seat as renewable energy takes the front seat.”
He praised Greenko for setting up this pioneering facility that ensures round-the-clock clean energy supply, adding that Andhra Pradesh’s natural topography supports up to 33,000 MW of renewable energy potential.
Anil Chalamalasetty, Founder, CEO & MD of Greenko Group, emphasized the project’s global significance:
“This project is a landmark in delivering a 24/7 dispatchable renewable energy solution, ahead of global ambitions. It is pivotal for industrial decarbonization and India’s journey to energy independence.”
He credited supportive policies and the visionary leadership of the Chief Minister for enabling this transformative initiative. The project also pioneers storage contracts with central utilities and large industries, strengthening India’s position as a leader in the global clean energy transition.
The IRESP is expected to be fully commissioned by the last quarter of 2023.
