New Delhi, February 20, 2026 (PIB):
At the session titled “AI Meets Agriculture: Building Food Security and Climate Resilience” held during the India AI Impact Summit 2026, policymakers, development institutions, researchers, and digital innovators deliberated on the transformative potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in agriculture. The discussion focused on strengthening food security and enhancing climate resilience through AI-driven solutions.
Agriculture at the Crossroads of Climate and National Security
Devendra Fadnavis, Chief Minister of Maharashtra, emphasized that agriculture today stands at the intersection of climate instability, economic sustainability, and national security. He highlighted mounting global pressures on food systems, declining groundwater levels, soil degradation, fragile supply chains, and volatile global markets.
He stated:
“AI is not magic; it must be built on trusted data, ethical governance, and public accountability. Without these foundations, large-scale deployment will not be possible.”
Fadnavis underlined that India’s AI Mission aims to ensure transparency, inclusion, and scalable impact, placing agriculture at its core since nearly 500 million Indians depend directly or indirectly on the sector.
Digital Public Infrastructure and Farmer-Centric Advisory Systems
Devesh Chaturvedi, Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, outlined the Government of India’s efforts to build interoperable digital public infrastructure for agriculture. He explained that the AI-powered integrated platform is designed to provide multiple applications and advisory services through a single interface—accessible via a click or even voice command.
