Jaipur, February 4, 2026:
Under the ongoing “Shuddh Aahar–Milawat Par Vaar” campaign, food safety authorities in Jaipur conducted an inspection at a sauce manufacturing unit and uncovered serious food safety violations, leading to the destruction of 1,250 kg of starch slurry and the seizure of 100 kg of mayonnaise.
The action was carried out at M/s Shri Shyam Food, a sauce and mayonnaise manufacturing facility located in Kesar Nagar, Kho Nagoriyan, following directives issued under the initiative of Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma and the supervision of Medical & Health Minister Gajendra Singh Khimsar.
Key Findings from the Inspection
According to Food Safety Commissioner Dr. T. Shubhangala, a central team led by Additional Commissioner Bhagwat Singh found multiple violations during the inspection:
Mayonnaise was being manufactured using starch slurry, despite starch being prohibited as per label declarations.
Titanium dioxide was used to enhance whiteness in mayonnaise, without label disclosure.
Under the Food Safety and Standards (FSS) Act, titanium dioxide is not permitted in mayonnaise.
Enforcement Action Taken
1,250 kg of starch slurry, found contaminated with mosquitoes, was destroyed on-site.
100 kg (litres) of mayonnaise was seized.
Samples of mayonnaise were collected for laboratory testing.
The factory owner, Lavnish Karmchandani, informed officials that the mayonnaise produced at the unit was primarily supplied to food stalls, raising wider public health concerns.
