The 11th biennial edition of DefExpo India 2020 was scheduled to be held for the first time in Lucknow, offering a major platform for the Indian defence industry to showcase its capabilities and strengthen its export potential.
The main theme of DefExpo India 2020 was announced as “India: The Emerging Defence Manufacturing Hub”, with a special focus on the “Digital Transformation of Defence.”
The international-level exhibition was designed to facilitate Business-to-Business (B2B) interactions with senior foreign delegations, along with Government-to-Government (G2G) meetings and the signing of Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs). The event was also expected to highlight the emergence of Uttar Pradesh as a key investment destination for the defence sector while promoting strategic alliances and joint ventures within the industry.
Uttar Pradesh has a significant defence industrial ecosystem, including four units of Hindustan Aeronautics Limited located in Lucknow, Kanpur, Korwa and Naini. The state also houses nine ordnance factory units, including those in Kanpur, Korwa, Shahjahanpur and Firozabad, along with a unit of Bharat Electronics Limited in Ghaziabad.
