Will couples no longer get OYO rooms in Delhi-NCR? Here's what you need to know
According to OYO's new rules, couples booking rooms in Meerut hotels will now be required to present a marriage certificate. Unmarried couples will not be allowed to check in. This policy has been implemented with immediate effect. If you're in a metro city like Delhi-NCR and planning to book an OYO room, this update is important for you.
The popular travel and hotel booking platform OYO has revised its policies and will no longer allow unmarried couples to book rooms through its platform. However, this rule is currently limited to Meerut, Uttar Pradesh. Based on feedback, OYO plans to extend this policy to other cities.
Unmarried couples barred from booking in Meerut
In Meerut, OYO has instructed its hotel partners not to provide rooms to unmarried couples, even if the booking was made online. According to the new rules, couples booking rooms either online or offline in Meerut must present a marriage certificate to secure a room.
What about Delhi-NCR?
For now, this rule is limited to Meerut and has not been implemented in Delhi-NCR or other cities. However, OYO plans to roll out this policy in additional cities based on the feedback received. If this happens, unmarried couples in other cities might face similar restrictions, as rooms will only be available to married couples under the new policy.
Do solo travelers and others need to show certificates?
The updated rules currently apply only to married and unmarried couples. Students, solo travelers, families, religious tourists, and business travelers booking through OYO are not subject to these changes.
Why did OYO change its rules?
The big question is why OYO decided to implement these changes. Reportedly, OYO received requests from several citizen groups, particularly in Meerut, urging them to disallow check-ins for unmarried couples. Additionally, petitions regarding this matter have been filed in other cities as well. These societal pressures have prompted OYO to revise its policies, starting with Meerut.
