
A webinar lecture Series titled ‘Resiliency of Power Electronics Based Green Technology’ under INDO- DENMARK SPARC R&D Project began yesterday at Jamia Millia Islamia(JMI). Researchers from premiere institutes like IITs, NITs, central universities including JMI and other technical Institutes from India and outside are participating in it.The lecture series, being hosted by the Department of Electrical Engineering, JMI was inaugurated by Prof. Mohd Ishtiaque, Officiating Vice-Chancellor, Jamia Millia Islamia(JMI). In his inaugural address Prof. Ishtiauqe emphasized the need of high quality research on resiliency of Power Electronics Based Green Technology considering the power scenario in India. He Congratulated Prof. Frede Blaabjerg, Foreign Principal Invesigator(PI), and Dr. Ahteshamul Haque, Indian PI of SPARC R&D project for conducting this webinar series. Prof. Ishtiauqe congratulated Prof. Munna Khan, Head of the Electrical Engineering Department, JMI for providing support to organize this webinar. He also appreciated him for encouraging youngsters to do research in emerging areas.Prof. Munna Khan welcomed the Chief Guest, main speaker from Denmark, dignitaries such as Prof. Mehtab Alam- Dean Student Welfare(DSW), JMI, Prof. Zahid Ashraf- Nodal Officer SPARC & Director (Academics) JMI, Prof. Ibraheem- Dean Faculty of Engineering & Technology, JMI and participants. He briefed them about the research credentials of the department and informed that h-index of the department is 53 with 1924 publications and 17123 citations as on today.Dr. Ahteshamul Haque- PI SPARC Project and Convener of the webinar lecture introduced Prof. Frede Blaabjerg. Dr. Haque informed that this lecture series has received more than 200 registrations from India and foreign countries. He briefed that programmes are being conducted in online mode because of Covid-19.Prof. Frede Blaabjerg thanked everyone for his welcome and delivered the talk on Wind Power- A technology enabled by Power Electronics. In his talk Prof. Frede showed the growth in wind energy sector and research challenges to be addressed and emphasised that due to advancement in research, the basic course curriculum needs to be changed frequently.Prof. Zahid Ashraf- Nodal Officer SPARC & Director (Academics) JMI appreciated the progress in SPARC project. He said that even during lockdown period due to pandemic, Dr. Ahteshamul Haque and Prof. Frede Blaabjerg were working through online mode to meet the project objectives and send research scholars Mr. Mohammed Ali Khan and Mr. K V S Bharath to Aalborg University, Denmark to work in research lab for meeting the project deliverables.Prof. Ibraheem, The Dean, Faculty of Engineering & Tech , JMI appreciated the research work going on in the Department and the Faculty. He further appreciated state of the art research facilities established in the research labs i.e. Advance Power Electronics Research Lab, Bio-Medical Research Lab, Energy Management Power System Lab, SCADA Lab, Sensor & Fabrication lab of the department.Ms. Azra Malik, research scholar introduced Dr.Ahteshamul Haque who has 100 research papers published to his credit, 6 patents out of which 3 are awarded and established state of the art Advance Power Electronics Research Laboratory from his Research project grant.
