The Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) has imposed a fine of ₹11 lakh on coaching institute Vision IAS for publishing misleading advertisements related to UPSC Civil Services Examination results of 2022 and 2023.
The authority found that Vision IAS made exaggerated claims about the number of successful candidates while selectively disclosing course details, creating the impression that all top rankers were enrolled in its high-fee foundation course. An investigation revealed that out of more than 119 claimed successful candidates, only three had actually taken the foundation course, while others had opted for test series or interview programmes.
The CCPA said such selective disclosure misled students and parents, violating the Consumer Protection Act, 2019. Noting that the institute had faced similar action earlier, the authority treated the case as a repeat offence.
The regulator has so far issued 57 notices to coaching institutes and imposed penalties exceeding ₹1.09 crore to curb misleading advertisements in the competitive exam coaching sector.
