The Vice Chancellor of Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI), Prof. Mazhar Asif, and Registrar, JMI, Prof. Md. Mahtab Alam Rizvi yesterday called on the Honorable Education Minister, Shri Dharmendra Pradhan ji, to apprise him of the various academic and other developments in the university.
During the meeting, the VC and Registrar, JMI informed the Hon'ble Minister that the university had achieved a significant milestone by starting its postgraduate programme in Dentistry and thanked him for the generous financial support extended by the Education Ministry. They conveyed their deep gratitude to Shri Dharmendra Pradhan ji for his continued encouragement and commitment to strengthening the Faculty of Dentistry. Prof. Asif and Prof. Rizvi also conveyed to the Hon'ble Education Minister the impressive performance of JMI's Residential Coaching Academy, noting that every year more than 30 students trained at JMI's RCA are selected in the prestigious UPSC Civil Services Examination and join top services such as the IAS, IPS, IRS, and Audit & Accounts Services, Indian Forest Service thereby contributing to the nation's progress.
The financial condition of the university was also a key point of discussion in the meeting. The VC and Registrar, JMI, gave an overview of the progress of developmental projects under the Higher Education Financing Agency (HEFA) and expressed concern over the unsatisfactory pace of progress on these projects.
Underscoring JMI's commitment to expanding its academic canvas, proposals for the establishment of new departments were also presented and deliberated upon in the discussion with the Hon'ble Minister. Further, they also had a fruitful discussion on the establishment of a Medical College at JMI, to which the Hon’ble Minister expressed his full support and assured them of all possible assistance.
The meeting concluded with discussions on the university’s forthcoming Convocation, including possible dignitaries to be invited as the Chief Guest to grace the momentous occasion. Furthermore, the VC and Registrar sought Shri Pradhanji's Ji support and advice on the same. The Hon’ble Minister commended the university’s progress and assured Prof. Asif and Prof. Rizvi of his unwavering support for JMI’s current and future initiatives. He also promised to visit Jamia Millia Islamia in the near future to witness JMI's vibrant academic environment.
