DLF Public School, Ghaziabad walked away from the tennis court with one gold and two silver medals on an eventful Day 6 of the SFA Championships 2024 Delhi as the action shifted to racquet sports on the penultimate day of the event. Dlf’s pairing of Shaurya/ Granth bagged gold in the U-14 Boys Doubles category, while Sadhya Kapoor and Shourya Singh picked up a silver each in the U-14 Girls and Boys Singles, respectively.
Amid the action, Commonwealth Games 2010 swimmer Tarun Tokas graced the championship with his presence. Tokas, who also represented India at the World University Games 2007, won medals at the National Games 2012, and was a probable in the Indian camp at the London Olympics 2012, highlighted the SFA Championships initiative and called for sports to be an essential part of the school curriculum.
“This is a great initiative, with many athletes participating from Delhi NCR. The name itself, Sports For All (SFA), reflects their mission of bringing so many schools together with the aim of developing grassroots sports,” said Tokas.
“I believe that more than academics, swimming or any sport should be an essential part of the school curriculum as it keeps both the mind and body fit. My message to fellow parents is to ensure their children stay regularly involved in sports for their overall development.”
On Day 6, student-athletes also contested for medals in Tokas’ sport of choice, swimming, with Pathways World School, Gurugram, topping the charts with six gold, seven silver, and seven bronze medals. Meanwhile, badminton, shooting, and yogasana, too, handed out medals.
The SFA Championships 2024 Delhi features 14,500 athletes aged 3 to 18 from 545 schools, who are competing in 19 sports across five venues.
