For the realization of equal future for women in Covid-19 world, steps need to be taken for preservation and generation of jobs for them in every sector of life, said Prof. Najma Akhtar, Vice Chancellor, Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI).Speaking in a UGC-organized webinar on the occasion of International Women’s Day on ‘’Women in Leadership: Achieving an Equal Future in a Covid-19 World’, attended by the Hon’ble Education Minister, Shri Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ along with Women Vice Chancellors and Women Principals of Universities and Colleges in India, Vice Chancellor, Prof. Najma Akhtar said that women have fully participated in the fight against the pandemic as healthcare workers, caregivers, doctors, scientists and frontline security personnel.
Women are eminently successful not only as home-makers but also as leaders, academicians, bureaucrats and politicians, she added. Women in Modern India have achieved several milestones in the face of social odds and religious restrictions and have often been strongest voices of peace and non-violence, observed Prof. Akhtar.Lamenting the suppression of women in certain sections of the society, she called for setting up a non-discriminatory order both in rural and urban spares.
Lauding the efforts of the Government, she talked about various schemes launched in the recent years for elimination of gender bias, giving access to education and participation of girl children, besides enactment of legislations for prevention of physical and sexual violence against women.Prof. Najma Akhtar thanked Shiksha Mantri, Shri Ramesh Pokhriyal and other officials of the Ministry of Education and UGC for their pioneering efforts towards women empowerment.
