Raksha Rajya Mantri Shripad Yesso Naik flagged off an expedition team from the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute (HMI), Darjeeling, to Mount Elbrus, Russia, today.
The team comprises eight professional mountaineers and is led by HMI Principal Gp Capt Jaikishan. They plan to summit Mount Elbrus on 15 August 2019 and hoist the Indian national flag at the peak to mark the 73rd Independence Day.
To highlight the importance of yoga internationally, the team will also perform asanas atop Mount Elbrus.
The Minister conveyed his best wishes for the successful completion of the expedition. Director (HMI) Shri Ramashray Sharma and senior officials of the Ministry were also present on the occasion.
