Jaipur, March 7, 2026: The Rajasthan Agriculture Department has reached an agreement with IORA Ecological Solutions Private Limited to launch an Agricultural Land Management Carbon Project in the state. The initiative has been taken on the initiative of Agriculture Minister Kirodi Lal Meena, making Rajasthan one of the leading states in India to adopt such climate-focused agricultural activities.
According to the minister, farmers already engage in several practices that help reduce carbon emissions, including plantation, micro-irrigation, farm ponds, and solar pumps. These activities can enable farmers to earn carbon finance under the Carbon Credit Trading Scheme 2023.
To facilitate carbon finance for farmers, the state government has decided to start the carbon credit initiative as a pilot project in selected blocks. These include Bansur block in Kotputli-Behror district, Mahwa block in Dausa, and Malpura block in Tonk. The pilot project will initially be implemented in these three blocks and later expanded across the state.
Under the project, farmers will receive payments per hectare for adopting practices that help reduce carbon emissions. These include efficient fertilizer management, improved irrigation efficiency, soil carbon enhancement, crop residue management, plantation, and rotational livestock grazing.
The carbon credit system is an economic and environmental mechanism designed to address climate change by reducing greenhouse gas emissions, particularly carbon dioxide. Globally, industrialization, transportation, and energy production release large amounts of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, which contributes significantly to global warming.
