Jaipur, April 21, 2026: The Rajasthan government, under Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, has launched an ambitious mental health initiative titled ‘Raj-Mamata’ (Rajasthan Mental Awareness, Monitoring and Treatment for All), aiming to strengthen mental healthcare services across the state.
Announced in the 2026–27 state budget as part of the broader Viksit Rajasthan 2047 vision, the program seeks to ensure “mental health for all” by expanding access to counseling, treatment, and awareness at both urban and rural levels.
Centre of Excellence in Jaipur, District-Level Expansion
A key component of the initiative is the establishment of a Centre of Excellence in Mental Health in Jaipur, equipped with advanced counseling and telemedicine facilities. This centre is expected to serve as a hub for specialized mental healthcare services.
Additionally, Mental Health Care Cells will be set up in every district headquarters, ensuring that citizens can access expert consultation, rehabilitation, and treatment closer to home.
Tele-MANAS Emerges as a Critical Support System
The state is also strengthening the implementation of the national tele-mental health program, Tele-MANAS, which provides immediate support to individuals dealing with stress, anxiety, or depression.
- Over 71,000 people in Rajasthan have already availed counseling services via the toll-free helplines (14416 and 1800-891-4416) as of April 15, 2026
- Services have been operational in Jaipur since May 2023 and Jodhpur since November 2023
Focus on Youth Mental Health
Recognizing rising stress levels among young people, the ‘Raj-Mamata’ program will introduce:
- Counseling sessions in educational institutions
- Training for ASHA workers and community health volunteers to identify early signs of mental health issues
- Grassroots awareness campaigns to reduce stigma and encourage timely intervention
Towards a Model Mental Health State
Through these integrated efforts, the Rajasthan government aims to position the state as a model for mental healthcare delivery in India, addressing issues such as depression, stress, and emotional well-being with a proactive and accessible framework.
