July 13: Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma on Monday directed police officials to intensify action against criminals, stating that law enforcement measures should be so decisive that they instill fear among offenders. Chairing a high-level law and order review meeting, the Chief Minister said Inspector Generals (IGs) and Superintendents of Police (SPs) will be held directly accountable for crimes occurring in their jurisdictions.
Sharma instructed Home Department and police officials that crime would not be tolerated under any circumstances and emphasized that merely arresting offenders was not enough. He said the entire network behind organised crime, cyber fraud, and drug trafficking must be dismantled.
The Chief Minister sought explanations from police officials over recent criminal incidents in Alwar, Sri Ganganagar, and Bharatpur, while a senior officer was issued a notice in connection with an alleged encroachment on grazing land in Gogunda.
Reviewing the state's crime situation, Sharma said organised crime and firing incidents have declined compared to 2023 but stressed that the pace of reduction must accelerate further. He directed police to ensure criminals and their handlers face strict action so that others are deterred from committing similar offences.
Highlighting illegal arms as the backbone of organised crime, Sharma ordered special drives in districts reporting higher Arms Act cases to break the supply chain of illegal weapons and trace operations back to the masterminds instead of limiting action to individual offenders.
