Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai released the report “Mapping India’s State-Level Energy Transition: Chhattisgarh” during a courtesy meeting with researchers from the International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD) and Swaniti Initiative at his residence in Raipur.
During the interaction, the Chief Minister held a comprehensive discussion with the research team on the expansion of renewable energy in the state, long-term energy security, and Chhattisgarh’s broader sustainable development roadmap. He stated that the government is committed to promoting solar energy, green hydrogen, and innovations related to energy efficiency across the state.
The researchers presented a detailed Energy Transition Vulnerability Index covering 52 coal-producing districts of India. The index highlights the urgency of a Just Transition—a socially, economically, and environmentally fair shift away from coal-dependent systems. The team explained that this index serves as a critical indicator for understanding future challenges in traditional coal regions, the structure of employment, and opportunities for alternative livelihoods.
The meeting underscored the state government’s resolve to build a resilient energy ecosystem and accelerate renewable energy adoption, ensuring that coal-dependent communities are supported through inclusive and equitable transition strategies.
